Mary Ann Pollaro, a nurse at Marshall and Burcham schools, has earned the School Nurse of the Year Award from the Long Beach School Nurses Association.
The 18-year employee of the Long Beach Unified School District “is the embodiment of all that a school nurse should be,” wrote one teacher. “She possesses not only the knowledge and skill set for the position, but the personal qualities so essential to working with staff, parents and most important the children she serves. Whether she is screening, assisting a sick child or treating an emergency, Mary Ann always remains calm and reassuring."
Another teacher wrote, "Mary Ann is generous with her time and heart. We are very fortunate to have someone such as Mary Ann to look after our kids and our teachers. Her dedication to all students is evident in her warm smile and hard work."
