Hamilton Middle School students Omar Lara Ramirez, Fabien Avina and Nam Tien earned second place at the VEX Robotics California State Championship held recently in Pasadena. Their adviser is teacher Ethan George.
The Hamilton team was one of two from the school to qualify for the state event. The North Long Beach middle school has developed a tradition of excellence in robotics at regional and state competitions, fielding a team in the inaugural statewide championship for middle school students back in 2014.
The Long Beach Unified School District has expanded robotics program in recent years for students in sixth through eighth grades at middle and K-8 schools.
