Eighty-five students from Whittier Elementary School recently received $100 gift cards to the Long Beach Towne Center’s Walmart, where police officers paired with the children to help them fill their shopping carts.
Long Beach Transit helped with transportation for the Shop with a Cop day held in collaboration with the Long Beach Police Foundation, Long Beach Education Foundation, Long Beach Transit and the Long Beach Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Before partnering with police and shopper volunteers, the children also were treated to breakfast and arts and crafts with community leaders including Police Chief Robert Luna.
