Hi Hill Outdoor Science School was closed effective Tuesday as a result of the major Southern California forest fires and high fire risk.
Although the closest fire was in Rancho Cucamonga more than 20 miles away, the United States Forest Service district ranger notified Hi Hill principal Ken Mendonca that the camp should be closed until there is sufficient rainfall to lower the high fire danger.
Only those camps with buses on standby in camp 24 hours a day are being allowed to operate in the Angeles National Forest.
District buses returned 134 fifth graders to Henry Elementary School. Cubberley and Lee schools were notified that they would not be going to Hi Hill as scheduled next week.
