A recent e-waste drive at local high schools resulted in the collection of more than 18 tons of unwanted unwanted computer monitors, TVs, DVD players, cell phones and other electronic equipment. Members of the public brought the unwanted items to Cabrillo, Lakewood, Poly, Jordan, Millikan and Wilson high schools, where Goodwill trucks served as the collection points. Student volunteers assisted on collection day.
The drive, designed to help divert unwanted electronics from landfills, was sponsored by the school district in cooperation with Long Beach Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal, the Department of Toxic Substances Control, and the Water Replenishment District.
