PAR…Peer Assistance and Review… LBUSD’s program for teacher support. Peer Assistance is primarily a voluntary program whereby teachers can call upon consulting teachers for individual assistance or enrichment. PAR offers another set of eyes, another pair of hands, another file cabinet of resources, and sometimes just another way of doing something with increased effectiveness or increased efficiency.
PAR is a teacher directed program. Interested teachers initiate all requests for assistance and may participate in professional development opportunities offered by the PAR Office. You, as a voluntary teacher, determine the frequency, and length and type of support needed. PAR Consulting Teachers (CTs) can observe instruction and offer coaching and feedback; CTs can model lessons and/or classroom management strategies; they can accompany the participating teacher on classroom visitations of exemplary teachers; they can help with long-range and short-range planning. If a group of teachers are interested in creating a book study group or in forming an action research or critical friends discussion group, a PAR CT can assist with the logistical planning and serve as a facilitator for the group.
Meaningful, on-going professional development … Increased knowledge … Multiplied resources… Opportunities for networking and collegiality…A fast learning curve when faced with new situations …And above all else, increased student achievement!
