About AVID

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and it is a nationally recognized college readiness system. The AVID secondary program is offered at Avalon, Cabrillo, Jordan, Lakewood, Millikan, Poly and Wilson High Schools.

AVID Mission

AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

AVID Overview

AVID is an elective class designed to target and enroll students from the academic middle into a school’s most rigorous courses.  Students receive support in the AVID elective class through tutoring and a proven curriculum based on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading (WICOR).
