Personnel Commissioners

The Long Beach Unified School District has a Merit System or Civil Service type of employment system, under the provisions of the State of California Education Code. It is designed to promote the efficiency of the public service and the selection, promotion, and retention of employees, on the basis of merit and fitness. The Personnel Commission consists of three LBUSD residents appointed by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction to oversee the administration of the Merit System.

The Commissioners meet biweekly to take action on a variety of items affecting the employment and compensation of classified employees. In addition to prescribing rules and regulations for employment they also serve as an appeals panel in cases of disqualification for employment or disciplinary actions.
