Questions about Special Education or General Education Programs should first be directed to the school site of attendance.
Each high school offers a continuum of special education services, including Resource Programs (RSP), Special Day Classes (SDC), and Related Services (RS). Additional support at all sites includes Speech/Language Specialists and Career Transition Specialists. Classes for Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Orthopedically Impaired, and Visually Impaired students are offered at selected schools throughout the District.
To be eligible for a Long Beach Unified School District diploma, all students, including those with disabilities, must earn a total of 220 semester periods of credits in grades 9 through 12.
While students with an IEP must meet all of the same graduation requirements as those students not in special education, the students may be receiving a modified curriculum that focuses on essential information and the most critical standards. Students may also use accommodations documented on their IEP to access the curriculum and participate in assessments.
