Wilson Classical High School physical education teacher Ruth Mohr-Silofau has won the statewide High School Teacher of the Year Award from the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She will be honored tomorrow at CAHPERD’s state conference in Riverside.
“It is really an honor considering it is for the entire state,” Mohr-Silofau said. “I am most happy for our students, our school, the school district and for our profession.”
The rigorous award selection process began in September and included a written portfolio and five letters of recommendation. A search committee interviewed students and observed a class.
Mohr-Silofau has taught for more than 20 years. Last year, she earned the Southern California Outstanding High School Physical Educator of the Year Award from CAHPERD. She also has earned the highest professional distinction in teaching, National Board Certification.
To win this year’s honor, Mohr-Silofau demonstrated that she conducts high quality instruction as reflected in the state’s Physical Education Content Standards, serves as a positive role model, participates in training and provides professional leadership.
