New school board member John McGinnis took the oath of office last week, returning the Board of Education to its full, five-member contingent for the first time in nearly eight months. McGinnis replaced Michael Ellis, who stopped attending meetings in June and resigned Sept. 1.
The new board member, who is a retired educator, defeated four opponents in a Dec. 29 special election. McGinnis will serve for the remainder of Ellis’ unexpired term, which ends in July.
