Five Finalists Vie for Employee of Year

More than 30 nominations for the Classified Employee of the Year Award have been narrowed down to five finalists. The top winner is scheduled to be announced during the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Classified Employee Celebration on Friday, May 23 at the Teacher Resource Center, 1299 E. 32nd St., Signal Hill. The winning employee will be honored at noon.

Parking is available on site, and the event includes tacos, games and prizes.

The 33 nominations ultimately resulted in 15 nominees because some nominees received multiple nominations.

This year’s finalists are Joy Dowell, middle school office supervisor at Bancroft; Ken Jones, plant supervisor at Bryant; Debbie Maes, staff secretary at Buffum; Beatriz Nieves, campus security officer at Millikan; and Deborah Wall, administrative secretary at CDC.

The remainder of this year’s nominees are Gertrude Addison, instructional aide at Wilson; Joanne Begley, staff secretary at Nursing Services; Tonia Cotton, intermediate office assistant at Lakewood; Amy Curran, instructional aide at Lakewood; Paul Evans, instructional aide at Lakewood; David Gonzalez, warehouse materials processor at the Purchasing Warehouse; Dwayne Hundley, custodian at Lakewood; Ileana Lomeli, intermediate office assistant at Tincher; Michelle Olsen, intermediate office assistant at MacArthur; and Jesus Sigala, custodian at Washington.

Nomination papers were submitted by colleagues and reviewed by a committee of classified employees. The winner and finalists also will be honored at an upcoming school board meeting.

The annual event is made possible by donations from private sponsors, organizations and school district managers and administrators.
