Employees at the Long Beach Unified School District’s Administration Building are celebrating Black History Month with displays in the building lobby and at elevator stops, and they have scheduled a Black History Celebration for noon to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 in the Community Room. A separate event titled “Importance of Education” is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26 at the Long Beach City College Liberal Arts Campus, Building P, Room 110. Tickets are $15 and available at the door. The event will feature trailblazing African American women from the local community. The women were featured as part of a recent “Breaking Through, Lighting the Way” exhibit at Long Beach’s Main Library.
