The Long Beach Unified School District is seeking applications for appointment to the Personnel Commission.
The Personnel Commission is the public body responsible for the administration of a “merit system” for the selection, retention and promotion of classified (non-teaching) employees in a public school system. By law, the commission is composed of three members appointed for three-year terms with the term of one member expiring each year.
The appointment will be to fill the vacancy of a personnel commissioner, including the remaining term. Personnel Commission appointments are selected and renewed for three-year terms beginning Dec. 1. The next three-year term of this position is Dec. 1, 2018 to Nov. 30, 2021.
To qualify, an applicant must be:
• A registered voter and a resident within LBUSD boundaries;
• A known adherent of the merit system (or civil-service system) and supporter of the concept of employment, in-service promotional opportunities and other related matters on the basis of merit and fitness.
An applicant cannot be a member of the LBUSD Board of Education or a community college district or county board of education, or an employee of LBUSD.
