Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education members Felton Williams and Jon Meyer have earned IMPACT Awards from Long Beach City Prosecutor Doug Haubert. The award recognizes the board members' efforts to reduce chronic truancy while improving the lives of students and their families.
"The more kids get an education and a high school degree, the less work for prosecutors in the future," Haubert said.
Both Williams and Meyer have served multiple terms as members and president of the school board. Williams is currently president of the board.
Among last year's honorees was Washington Middle School Principal Megan Traver for her efforts on the "All In" program, a City of Long Beach and LBUSD partnership to reduce chronic truancy.
Williams and Meyer will be honored during a reception next week.
