18 Schools Earn 'Think Green' Funds

The Environmental Sustainability Office in the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development worked with Think Green to award 18 schools in the Long Beach Unified School District for their environmental efforts.

Administrators, teachers, staff, families and students worked hard to achieve bronze, silver or gold recognition for their school. The participating schools spent time educating students and staff, developing their programs and completing the application process, which included a site visit.

Bronze awards of $1,500 went to Browning, Cabrillo, Longfellow and Wilson for their implementation of recycling programs.

Silver awards of $2,500 went to Burcham, Emerson, Grant, Lindbergh and Prisk for sustaining recycling programs and implementing food recovery programs.

Gold awards of $3,500 went to Cubberley, Dooley, Franklin, Gant, Hughes, Muir, Poly, Rogers and Stanford for recycling, food recovery, and going above and beyond by creating environmental clubs, garden clubs, hosting a waste reduction event and implementing waste reduction policies.

The winning schools will use their award money to continue to grow their green programs.

GREEN TEAM – Longfellow Elementary School students helped their school to earn $1,500 for the school's green programs.
