Poly High School recently held its first Festival of Gardening and Butterflies during the school’s eighth annual Wellness Week.
The festival, organized by Poly’s Garden Club and Special Education Department, invited students to celebrate the environment and “blossom” their mental and emotional health. The jackrabbits in attendance received free plants, gardening tools and more.
A total of 24 tables were set up for local nurseries, small business owners and local nonprofit organizations who donated their time and products to make the event possible.
The festival was led by Indira Jimenez, a special education teacher at Poly. Earlier this year, Jimenez also launched a campaign to open an outdoor sensory space for special education students. The sensory space now features a recently completed inclusion wall mural designed by local artist Enrique Brito and dedicated to special education students.
