Thirty-three Long Beach Unified School District schools earned top ranks in Niche.com’s 2023 list of Best Public Schools in California. The California Academy of Mathematics and Science topped the LBUSD list, ranking No. 1 among the Best Magnet High Schools and No. 4 among the Best Public High Schools statewide.
Joining CAMS in the best magnet high school category are Sato Academy of Math and Science, No. 8, and McBride High School, No. 19.
Other LBUSD schools listed among Niche’s best public high schools in the state are Sato Academy, No. 92; Poly, No. 155; McBride, No. 182; Millikan, No. 262; Wilson, No. 358; Renaissance, No. 634; and Lakewood, No. 647. Renaissance also ranked 24th among best high schools for the arts in California.
Best public middle schools are Newcomb K-8, No. 172; Tincher K-8, No. 213; Rogers, No. 247; Helen Keller, No. 322; Cubberley K-8, No. 331; Marshall, No. 340; Stanford, No. 356; Hughes, No. 486; Bancroft, No. 502; Hoover, No. 724; Jefferson, No. 748; Muir K-8, No. 823; Jessie Nelson, No. 878; and Gompers K-8, No. 879.
Best public elementary schools are Kettering, No. 295; Naples, No. 297; Newcomb K-8, No. 404; Prisk, No. 410; Gant, No. 483; Tincher K-8, No. 513; Carver, No. 526; Lowell, No. 584, Fremont, No. 623; Los Cerritos, No. 670; Cubberley K-8, No. 808; Emerson, No. 845; Henry K-8, No. 890; and Bixby, No. 997.
